We want you to enjoy our walks in the way that we have enjoyed them and enjoyed describing them here. But paramount is the safety of you and members of your party so we are obliged to point out to you a number of conditions of use of the site.

Walking in the hills and dales of Northern England is a delightful, pleasurable pastime and has many and varied rich rewards. With the correct clothing, footwear, maps, compass, food and drink, a fit and healthy person should be able to enjoy all our walks without a problem. As the old adage says: "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!".

However, we cannot make any warranties about the conditions you will find underfoot, with the weather, your navigation abilities and the variation of routes that may occur due to changes by landowners, national park authorities, cliff falls and the like. Maps become out of date sometimes. Even the apparently infallible Google has been known to make the odd error or two on Google Maps.

The walks we provide on Wanderlust are correct to the best of our knowledge at the time we walked them last and using the information available to us when we prepared the web pages which hold them. But they are guides in the broadest sense: it is entirely up to you, and those in your party, to ensure that the walk is within your physical capabilities, that you can complete it in the anticipated weather conditions, that you have suitable equipment, clothing, footwear, refreshments and first aid facilities. And that you have the relevant Ordnance Survey map and a suitable compass which you know how to use when you need to.

We regret that we cannot accept responsibility for any loss, howsoever caused, due to any inaccuracy or incorrect data or images on this website.

The Walks Sketch Maps: George produces our fantastic sketch maps of the walks routes which link to the numbered written guides he and Victoria write. We use the original Ordnance Survey maps (under licence) as a guide and they are as accurate as we can possibly make them. But the sketch maps must never be used as a substitute for the real thing: a 1:25,000 scale Ordnance Survey map (1:50,000 scale if 1:25,000 is not available). By all means take a printed copy of our sketched map along to augment your OS map, but please don't rely on it solely under any circumstances. Ever.

Please note that the outline route and direction pins on any of our Google Maps on the site are also a guide only. On full or near full zoom they cannot be guaranteed to follow every twist and turn of the route described. Again, it cannot be emphasised enough that you should properly prepare your walk by planning the route on the appropriate 1:25,000 Ordnance Survey map before you begin. Make proper allowances for the anticipated weather conditions, the amount of daylight available, the fitness of your party, the food and equipment carried, the clothing and footwear worn, any refreshments available and the mapping and navigation skills available to the party.

Follow this guidance, and the other tips on this site, and you will enjoy the walks as much as we have.  Have a great day out.
