All public footpaths are not required to be safe to walk.

You need to be aware of bulls and cows in fields. A herd of cows with young calves can be jittery.

Stiles can be broken or rickety.

Paths may have slipped or eroded.

Bridges and stepping stones may be mossy and hence slippery.

 

And then there are weather issues.

A one in seven strong wind can whip you off your feet (it happened to me on High Street in the Lakes).

 

So do take care.
